Character Background and Description Soushi is a non-binary Japanese pilot. They are one of the younger graduates from the pilot program on MINOS. While off-planet mining is a low-education, low-training, and undesirable job, piloting requires several years of intensive education and multiple clearances to get the job. Because of the hard program, there aren't many graduates, and mining companies hire directly out of school. The pay and company perks of housing and healthcare put Soushi in the middle class. They live comfortably in a company complex with other pilots in the program. While they might seem reserved and quiet, Soushi is intensely passionate about flying and space travel. They wish MINOS allowed for further exploration past trips to Io, another moon of Jupiter, for mining resources, but they are limited to just dreams and the brief joys of the transport trips. Soushi's ship is a partner ship, meaning it's bigger than the miner's transport ship and is used to load resources. Their crew is small and generally leaves them be to marvel at the stars while they fly. Despite this dreamy behavior, Soushi is one of the most competent pilots in the program, and the crew isn't hesitant to admit they feel safest when Captain Kobayashi is flying. On days off, Soushi paints intensely dark space-scapes, a mix of what they sees out in the void on their flights interwoven with traces of intense colors to suggest what's beyond the black. Their room at the complex is wall to wall with these black star paintings. Usually the only light in their room is the light blue from their computer that they use to chart the stars for future expedtions, and writing a proposal for further space exploration. Soushi has family back in the Japan Sector, but doesn't often see them because of work demands, so each visit is cherished. Soushi is relatively short, not helping with their young age to be a pilot. They are of medium build and their short fluffy hair is going an early grey, as characteristic of their family.
